Perspective

perspective Perspective…’a point of view.’ Perspective continues to change as I change and grow. The other day I needed a new perspective and decided to lay down in my hallway.  No grassy knoll available so this was the easiest and most convenient way to gain a different view of my world.  It may be odd, but it truly helped me to relax. “The ocean of suffering is immense, but if you turn around, you can see the land” (Thich Nhat Hanh, 2012).

The second photo is one taken when in Elk, CA years ago on my 40th birthday.  Now at 45 it is hard to believe all that has happened.  At 40 there was no way to predict what would happen along the way and there is something almost comforting in not knowing the path.  Oftentimes I have wanted to know what lies in the ‘crystal ball’ of life yet sometimes, now looking back, it was better to be unaware.  If I knew all that would happen would I have made drastically different choices? Perhaps; yet not knowing led me to the same intended path but it in some ways protected me from the bumps I would endure along that path. I experienced the bumps of life regardless but it was easier to tell myself that things would be okay given the unknown route.  So today at 45 I have a different perspective than I did at 40; not necessarily better or worse just different. Cheers to a new year and a new perspective!
